Communiqué officiel des Geneva Seahawks :

 Ces derniers jours le petit monde du football américain suisse a beaucoup parlé de la situation des Geneva Seahawks et pas toujours de manière respectueuse. C’est pourquoi nous avons décidé de vous adresser le communiqué suivant. Après avoir gagné la finale de ligue B en juillet 2008, nous avons pris la décision de confirmer à la SAFV notre participation au championnat de ligue A 2009. Toutefois, nous avons volontairement décidé de ne faire appel à aucun renfort contractuel ou mercenaire et avons prôné le recrutement local. C’est ainsi que nous pourrons garantir la pérennité de notre sport et regrettons que certaines équipes ne cherchent que la gloire en passant par la participation effrénée de joueurs de l’extérieur : visions sans avenir et valeur sportive !  Pendant notre période de préparation, nous avons du faire face à des problèmes que toutes les équipes connaissent, à savoir départs de joueurs, intégration des rookies, mauvaises conditions météo etc.….Nous n’avons cependant pas baissé les bras et avons continué à travailler. Fin 2008, la situation de notre effectif n’était pas très bonne, peux de participation aux entraînements et absence totale de «linemen ». De même, dans l’optique de renforcer notre effectif, nous avons intégré la NSFL  et contacté chaque équipe……. à ce jour, un peu d’intérêt sur le papier, mais par sur le terrain. Nous avons donc fait un état des lieux approfondi de notre équipe senior et sommes arrivé à la conclusion qu’il serait difficile, voir dangereux et même irresponsable de participer au championnat de ligue A 2009. Conscient du fait que cette décision était tardive, nous avons questionné l’équipe des Gladiators, qui a répondu favorablement, afin de considérer une permutation… permutation logique puisque cette dernière serait restée en ligue A si nous avions refusé notre ascension ! Dès lors, nous avons officialisé notre demande à la SAFV et demandé un switch entre l’équipe de Pratteln et celle de Genève. La SAFV n’a rien trouvé de mieux à faire que d’informer le pays entier par l’intermédiaire de son blog et ce avant même que des discussions sérieuses n’aient pu avoir lieu. On peut même ce demander si cette campagne de dénigrement n’a pas été orchestrée et voulue par la fédération. Il s’en est suivi que la SAFV, ayant subi des pressions importantes, mais surtout peu sportives, a décidé de ne pas agir en fédération et d’accepter de prendre ces responsabilités : le sport d’abord ! Elle a indirectement imposé notre participation au championnat de ligue A sous peine de sanctions sévères et impossible à supporter pour un club amateur. Les Geneva Seahawks participeront donc au championnat de ligue A 2009 et se rendront comme prévu le 5 avril chez les Zurich Renegades que nous remercions pour leur soutient par l’intermédiaire de leur coach M. Chris Winter. Nous participerons aux mieux de nos possibilités au championnat 2009 en ayant comme but de reformer une équipe stable et d’intégrer progressivement nos rookies. Notre démarche n’était en aucun cas une manœuvre de déstabilisation ou un manque de respect envers la fédération ou les autres équipes. Au contraire, nous avons essayé de proposer une solution valable pour notre équipe et pour ce sport. Mais une fois de plus, nous n’avons reçu aucune aide ni compréhension de la part de la SAFV. Dès lors, on peu se demander si cette fédération est bien là pour protéger ces joueurs et promouvoir ce sport !

Geneva Seahawks’ communication release :

 These last days, the world of Swiss American football has been talking a lot about the Geneva Seahawks situation and too often without respect. This is why we have decided to send you an official communication release. After winning in July 2008 the title of Swiss Champion league B, the Seahawks confirmed to SAFV that they would accept to play in the major league championship in 2009. However, we decision was taken to only take local recruits and refuse to reinforce the team with import financed players.That is the only way to guarantee the longevity of our sport and we deeply regret that some teams have selected to only choose the glory and abuse in getting import players: short term vision with no sport values!During this preparation period, we faced several issues that most of the teams are facing, such as departure of some key players, integration of rookies, bad weather conditions cancelling practice session….We have not disarmed and have continued to work hard. End of 2008, the team situation was not so good: not too many players at practice and no linemen players. In addition and in view to reinforce our team, our incorporation to the NSFL had little success…..  some email exchange with all the teams, but no one at practice. We analysed the situation in depth and came to the conclusion that it would be impossible, dangerous and even irresponsible to present a team in the league A.  Conscious of the late decision, but willing to find an easy and suitable solution for all, we consulted with the Gladiators’ team who responded favourably to a switch of league….a switch which would have been logical should we have decided to remain in the league B at the end of the season. Upon their reply, we informed the SAFV of our conclusion, hoping that the federation would have taken the steps to ease this switch. To the contrary, the SAFV informed the entire world through their blog site and thus even before any formal talks. One can ask if this denigration campaign was indeed orchestrated and wished by the SAFV. Obviously, everyone came back with nasty and unsporting’ comments putting SAFV under pressure and leading SAFV not to take its responsibility as a federation: Sport first! SAFV has indirectly imposed our participation into the league A or we were facing financial sanctions which would have been unbearable for an amateur sport’s association like ours. The Geneva Seahawks will participate to the league A 2009 championship and will go to Zurich on April 5th and play against the Renegades that we would like to thank, through his coach Chris Winter, for their support. We will play and do the upmost to the limit of our possibilities with the objective to reshape a more stable team and integrate all our rookies. Our action is not to be considered as a manoeuvre of destabilisation and lack of respect to the federation nor the teams. On the contrary, we just wanted to try to find a suitable solution for our team and for this sport. But once again, we have not found any support or comprehension for SAFV. Therefore, you might wonder if this federation is there to defend its players and promote this sport.

Geneva Seahawks Offizielle Mitteilung :

In den letzten Tagen wurde in der kleinen Welt des American Football Schweiz viel über die Geneva Seahawks gesprochen. Leider hat bei diesen Diskussionen oft der nötige Respekt gegenüber dem Klub, den Verantwortlichen und den Spielern gefehlt. Aus diesem Grund folgende offizielle Mitteilung. Nachdem wir den Final der Liga B im Juli 2008 gewonnen haben, haben wir uns entschieden dem SAFV unsere Teilnahme in der Liga A für die Saison 2009 mitzuteilen. Weiter haben wir darauf verzichtet, spielerische Verstärkung zu rekrutieren. Vielmehr haben wir uns auf die lokalen Ressourcen konzentriert. Nur so ist es unserer Meinung nach möglich langfristig unseren Sport zu manifestieren. Wir bedauern, dass dies einige Teams anders sehen und auf kurzfristige Verstärkung von eingekauften Spielern zählen. Eine Vision ohne sportliche Nachhaltigkeit!In der Vorbereitungszeit haben wir mit altbekannten Problemen gekämpft. Abgang von Schlüsselspielern, Integration von neuen Spielern, schlechtes Wetter, usw.Wir haben aber die Köpfe deswegen nicht hängen lassen, sondern haben konsequent weitergearbeitet. Ende 2008 war die Situation des Klubs nicht befriedigend. Wenig Spieler im Training und keine „Linemen“. Um unser Team zu verstärken haben wir die NSFL integriert und jedes Team kontaktiert. Diese zeigten sich zwar interessiert jedoch vermissen wir bis heute Taten. Wir haben den Zustand des Teams nüchtern analysiert und sind zum Schluss gekommen, dass eine Teilnahme an der Liga A schwierig, sogar gefährlich und unverantwortlich ist. Im Wissen, dass wir mit dieser Entscheidung spät dran waren, haben wir dennoch versucht einen einfachen, gewinnbringenden Weg zu finden. Wir kontaktierten die Gladiators um einen „Tausch der Ligen“ vorzuschlagen. Die Reaktion war äusserst positiv. Demnach informierten wir den SAFV bezüglich der Entscheidung in der Hoffnung, dass dieser „Austausch“ gutgeheissen wird. Der SAFV hat in der Folge via Blog die ganze Welt darüber informiert bevor auch nur einmal eine seriöse Diskussion stattgefunden hätte. Man fragt sich mit welchen Absichten der Verband dieses Vorgehen gewählt hat. Der SAFV wurde von vielen mit unhöflichen und respektlosen Kommentaren uns gegenüber unter Druck gesetzt und eine eigenständige Entscheidungsfindung des SAFV wurde verhindert, im Sinne von „Sport first“. Folglich hat uns der SAFV mitgeteilt, dass wir entweder in der Liga A spielen oder eine Busse bezahlen müssen, welche für einen Amateurverein nicht leicht verkraftbar ist. Die Geneva Seahawks werden 2009 in der Liga A spielen. Am 5. April spielen wir gegen die Zürich Renegades. Bei dieser Gelegenheit möchten wir dem Trainer, Chris Winter, für seine Unterstützung diesbezüglich danken.  Wir werden das Möglichste machen um das Team wieder in Form zu bringen, die Mannschaft zu stabilisieren und neue Spieler zu rekrutieren. Unser Lösungsvorschlag war weder ein Versuch die Liga zu verunsichern noch hat es uns dabei an Respekt gegenüber dem Verband und den Teams gefehlt. Wir wollten lediglich eine Lösung finden, welche im Sinne unseres Teams und vor allem dem Sport ist. Einmal mehr konnten wir dabei nicht auf die Unterstützung des Verbands zählen. Aus diesem Grund wundert man sich, dass es eigentlich die Aufgabe des Verbandes ist, die Spieler zu schützen und den Sport zu fördern. Wir wünschen allen eine tolle Saison 2009 und freuen uns Sie in Genf willkommen zu heissen.
